The flower guide

What to know before you order flower.

Indica, sativa, hybrid — what the labels really mean

The oldest framework in cannabis sorts flower into three buckets. It's a useful starting point — just know the effect is driven more by a strain's terpene and cannabinoid mix than by the indica/sativa label alone.

  • Indica. Traditionally the “nighttime” class: heavier and more physically relaxing, better for winding down, sleep, and couch evenings.
  • Sativa. The “daytime” class: brighter, more cerebral and energizing, often chosen for creativity, focus, or social plans.
  • Hybrid. A cross of the two, tuned to lean indica, sativa, or sit balanced. Most modern strains are hybrids — which is why effect matters more than category.

How to read a flower label

Every jar we deliver carries a Massachusetts-required label: total THC and CBD, the strain, the cultivator, a batch number, and a packaged-on or harvest date. Read it in that order.

THC percentage tells you potency, not quality — terpenes (the aromatic compounds listed on many labels) shape whether a strain feels relaxing, energizing, or focused. The date matters too: fresher flower keeps its aroma and smoothness. Anything tested and dispensed in Massachusetts has already cleared pesticides, heavy metals, microbials, and residual solvents by law.

Eighths, quarters, ounces — how flower is sold

Flower is sold by weight. Here's what each common size works out to, and who it suits.

  • Gram (1g). A bowl or two, or one fat joint — the try-before-you-commit size.
  • Eighth (3.5g). The most popular size — about a week for a casual smoker, and where strain variety is widest.
  • Quarter (7g) / Half (14g). Better value per gram once you've found a strain you like.
  • Ounce (28g). The bulk tier and the best price per gram — and the most flower you can buy in a single day in Massachusetts.

Keeping flower fresh

Cannabis degrades with light, heat, air, and humidity. An airtight glass jar in a cool, dark cabinet beats the bag it came in. Aim for roughly 59–63% relative humidity — too dry and it smokes harsh, too damp and it risks mold. Skip the freezer; freezing makes trichomes brittle and they snap off. Treated right, flower holds its quality for about six months.

Ways to save without dropping quality

You don't have to buy top-shelf eighths to smoke well. “Smalls” (popcorn buds) are the same flower in smaller nugs for less. Buying by the quarter or ounce lowers your per-gram cost. And if you mostly roll, our pre-rolls and pre-ground options save you the grinding entirely.
